This 5 day tour to the Amazon forest which starts in Iquitos, the biggest city in the Peruvian jungle, is an unforgettable experience for all nature lovers who want to know the exuberant flora and fauna of the pristine national reserve Pacaya Samiria. You will also have the chance to participate in a jungle river cruise on the most abounding river in water of the world, the legendary Amazon river and on some of its affluents and we will visit the village of a native tribe of the Bora. For your overnight stays we have chosen the most beautiful hotels in Iquitos and close to Pacaya Samiria reserve. For this trip you don´t need any vaccinations.

1. Day:  Morning flight from Lima to Iquitos and transfer to the hotel. Afterwards city tour with visits of the Plaza de Armas, Museo Amazónico, Museo Barcos Históricos, the river promenade Malecón Tarapacá and the famous Belén market. The rest of the day is at your free disposal, e.g. for relaxing in the hotel garden with pool. In the evening we will invite you for dinner to the lovely swimming restaurant Al Frio y al Fuego where you will be taken by boat.

2. Day:  After breakfast we pick you up for an exciting boat trip on the rivers Itaya, Amazon, Nanay and Momón. During the cruise we will make some stops, first at Fundo Pedrito where you can observe animals like paiches ( the 2. biggest freshwater fish in the world ), caimans, turtles, parrots and the largest ornamental plant of the jungle, the Victoria regia; then we go to El Paraiso del Amazonas, a place with confiscated animals from animal smugglers ( monkeys, sloths, ocelots, tucans and a couple of huge anacondas ) . From here we navigate to Amazon Camp for a delicious lunch with typical food of the area and the possibility of a refreshing bath in the pool. Later on we walk to a little village of the Bora native tribe and can enjoy some of their dances and chants and admire the handicrafts made of natural materials like barks, seeds, feathers etc. In the late afternoon we will be back in Iquitos and bring you to the hotel.

3. Day:  Today we bring you first to the CREA, a rescue project of manatees and some other endangered wildlife species, before we head to the port of Nauta about 100 km south of Iquitos. Here we take a private boat that brings us in 1 hour on the Marañón river to the beautiful Lakshmi Ecolodge and Holistic Spa, located close to the river in front of the national reserve of Pacaya Samiria. In the afternoon we walk around the 50 hectares of woodland which belongs to the lodge and our guide will show us many trees, medicinal plants as well as some birds, frogs and insects. After dinner we make a night walk in the same area in order to observe some other animals like tarantulas, rodents and night birds. ( B / L / D )

4. Day:  Early in the morning we walk in the surroundings of the lodge to view and take pictures of some of the tropical birds that live here. After breakfast we will take the boat ascending the Marañón river to a place where you can observe pink and grey dolphins swimming and jumping around.  Afterwards our guide shows us how to fish pirañas and other fish and you can also try to get some with a fishing rod, made of a simple stick with a  hook and bait.  In the afternoon we start a 4 – 5 hour fascinating boat trip into Pacaya Samiria, with 2.080 000 hectares the 2. largest natural reserve of Peru and considered one of the areas with the highest biodiversity in the world ( so far around 500 species of birds, 250 of reptiles and amphibians, 132 of mammals and 260 of fish have been recorded ).  You will enjoy this unique experience.  ( B / L / D )

5. Day: On the last day of this amazing jungle tour we will bring you by boat to a path within the Pacaya Samiria reserve and during a 2 hour walk you have the chance to see more animals, especially monkeys, butterflies, birds and maybe a sloth, sleeping on the branch of a tree. We will have a last delicious lunch in our lodge and then we bring you back by boat and car to Iquitos straight to the airport for the evening flight to Lima. ( B/L )
